Antique Florals Make Summer New Again

I'm at work...and i'm not working ...It seems anytime I have things to do, I find the most inspiration to discuss something I have recently fallen in love with.

I also have been busy with finals, and an intercession class, so I just haven't had much creative juice.

Which brings me to today's muse: Fantasic, vintage floral skirts and dresses. Yeah, i know, big surprise, florals for summer and spring? What a concept. the difference this time, is that these prints are daintier and softer than usual, and make any girl look and feel girlier than ever before. They are seriously fun and flirty (excuse the cliche, but its true). I would pair these guys with a soft, flowey shirt, and add some edgy hardware to balance the softness of the skirt, with some strong accessories.

If You Haven't Heard

Wild Beasts. Wild Beasts. Wild Beasts.

That fantastically droney, languid , pop spectacular is Wild Beasts! I really don't know how to describe their sound, so I used languid because there is some kind of slow/lazy quality to their songs, without turning into Rainy Day music. It's just..oh, what's the word??? GOOD.
Their album came out in December, so this isn't intirely NEW music, but they haven't seem to have caught on yet. They are worth the attention. When I first heard "All the Kings Men," I just couldn't get enough because it was so different than anything I've ever heard. their sound is truly not a replication of what we hear every day.

The vocals and guitar sound are probably my favorite aspects of this band. --"WATCH MEH WATCH MEH!" Ummm just check it out. I've gone ga ga.

Music Similar: The Temper Trap. "Sweet Disposition." They have very similar vocal stylings, but break out into Coldplay-style harmonies mid song, and big finishes. It;s easy on the ears.

Oh look, its "All the Kings Men" video in the link below. How'd that get in here.. Album: Two Dancers.

New Music to Live By

I grew about as tired of hearing Electric Feel by MGMT as I did hearing the Drums by The Tings Tings last summer. The difference: The Ting Tings didn't just release a redeeming fantastic album, that will most definitely disappoint the casual listener, and club goer. No, this album is not as easy to swallow as those brainless pop hits that clog the club and radio sound waves. Can we put that shit to rest already?
MGMT's new album, Congratulations, is demonstrative of the bands non one trick ponyness, and is a fantastic surprise to you groaners at the meer mention of bands like MGMT. I was wonderfully surprised at the single, Flash Delirium which exudes a quirky, nod to 60's mod culture. Here, a link for your convienence : http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvSMp7T2Kes ..
The single doesn't stray too far from the path they have beaten, but still offers something different to those of you, like me, who easily grow wary of the summer fluff so amply offered.
Stay tuned, I'm going to see them in Red Rocks June 11th. I'm very excited to experience this album live....and..maybe hear the dreaded hits from last summer after a few of those delicious vodka lemonades that are so abundant on the side of that mountain in Denver.

Retire Your Raybans

Well, retire your raybans for the summer at least. Make room for the 50's vintage classic, Cat eye sunglasses for the pool, and beach. Now you can sport your cateye-eyeliner and sunglasses all at once. Whoa now. And maybe you can throw on your new cat-print tunic! No, don't do that. I'm kidding.

These glasses are cute, and look good on all face types. Target, and www.urbanoutfitters.com, can help you out in this chic and fun trend for the summer.

Don't Be So Catty

Yeah, I love cats. I don't see myself as one of those insane cat ladies, but I do cherish my cat, and think that generally, cats are funny and easier to take care of than dogs.

That being said, I noticed a recent flurry of my favorite pet being adorned on tank tops, racerbacks, and shorts. I thought it was some odd fluke or coincidence, however, Nylonmag.com confirms the meow meows are being spotted all over the nation in varoius upscale (and lowscale) boutiques and outlets.

Now, I would never wear a shirt with a big cat on it (I can say this because I almost purchased one from Urbanoutfitters.com, but decided I didn't want the stigma of being insane to follow me around), but I do think some of the prints out, like the one above, are quirky, cute, and humourous and are to be worn in moderation and...with caution.

But uh, ya secretly, I love it.
*Watch out for my feature on cat-eye sunglasses I saw featured on Marieclaire.com ..mee-ow..

If the Shoe Fits

It seems within the past 3 seasons or so, shoes have taken on an unfathomable, unrecognizable form. I first noticed this last fall, when Galliano featured insanely amazing HIGH heels made of wood and leather. The above shoe is Galliano. He blows my mind every season.
Louboutin has always created outlandish heels, platforms, and spiked boots, but as of late, the actual form of the high heel has been recreated in an exciting, futureistic, mechanical form that keeps me interested and amazed. In addition to beautiful clothing, designers have recreated and reimagined what the heel IS and where it GOES. Amazingly, I've seen the heel of the shoe placed at the arch of the foot, leaving the ball of a one's foot suspended in mid air. It's so strange and delightful.
On the modern runway, what's on the foot is just as awe-inspiring as the beautiful gowns on the body.
